There are many things you can do to promote your website address
online. But online promotion isn't the only way to get your name
out there. More traditional advertising channels can also serve
your purposes in promoting a new website address. Follow these eight
tips for generating some offline buzz about your site.
Write a press
release. Announce the grand opening of your website to all
the major news channels, offline as well as on. Make sure you emphasize
what makes your website different from the websites of other companies
in your industry-a special online service you offer, for example.
Newspaper editors are looking for newsworthy stories, so know your
unique selling proposition-and make sure they know why your website
is important to their readers. This will give you a much bigger
chance of generating media attention.
Include it in all your official stationery. Your business
cards, your letterhead, your envelopes-everything that has your
business address should also include your website address. That
way, any time you interact with the public-sending an invoice, exchanging
business cards, sending sales letters-you'll be putting your website
address in front of them.
Feature it in your offline publications. Announce the opening
of your website in your hardcopy newsletter-as the big front-page
feature. Let all your readers know that they can find valuable information
about your company online. If it's appropriate for your industry,
include informational articles, interactive
features, promotional giveaways for the first 100 people who sign
on to your e-newsletter, or some other reason for hardcopy newsletter
readers to get on the site.
Give it away. Print your website address on giveaway promotional
items like magnets, pens, caps, and T-shirts. You can also do holiday-specific
giveaways, including Christmas tree ornaments, cookie-shaped ornaments,
and the like. Place these in your lobby, give them away at events,
or include them with customer orders.
Go to a trade show/ Exhibition. These shows are a great
way to network and get your website address in the hands of hundreds
of hot leads. Include it on all your company literature, hang a
big sign with your website address printed on it in your booth,
and print it on all your company giveaways. Every time you exchange
business cards, give a prospect a brochure, give away a T-shirt
or a pen, or catch the eye of a passerby, they'll notice your company's
website address.
Include it in your voice mail message. Your company's voice
mail message should include your website address. Tell callers that
your business is open 24/7 online, and that they can place orders,
make reservations, send you an email-whatever they might be calling
you for-with one quick visit. Chances are, most of them will go
to your site if they can't reach you, and be glad you're so easily
accessible.
Paint it on your car. If you have a company car with your
business name or logo on it already, why not include the website
address? Hundreds-maybe even thousands-of people see your car whenever
you take it for a drive, so why not put your website address in
front of them? Make sure the design is stylish and eye-catching,
and most importantly, easy to read-even from a distance.
Feature it in your print ads. If you're running print ads
in magazines or newspapers, don't bury your website address in a
big block of fine print. Make it stand out-in big, noticeable letters
or in a different color from the surrounding text.
SEO and Internet
marketing aren't everything. You're not getting all the attention
you deserve if you're not marketing your site offline as well. These
eight ideas should get you started in getting your website address
recognized offline-and bringing in plenty of traffic to your site.
