"You can't simply optimise your way to top rankings....but
it can help".
Typically on page optimisation refers to the way a page is designed
and presented to help make it possible for search engines to crawl
the page and to understand effectively what the page is about. If
you can achieve this it will also have a better chance of ranking
well for that content too.
On page optimisation can cover both document structure such as
the visible lay out of the page - e.g. header tags, hyperlinks and
the actual written content as well as the invisible elements such
as Meta Tags and the actual page title tags.
Optimising web pages through tweaking Meta Tags and Title Tags
whilst on its own not a highly effective as it once was, can still
be a useful activity for most websites especially when combined
with off site link building.
Due to the influence of Google, on page optimisation is now a part
of the bigger picture not the whole picture itself, as the Google
algorithm defines links as votes for a website.
This was a revolutionary system when it was launched as both document
content was combined with links in the equation. This combination
of factors influences how many of the search engines tend to weigh
websites and their pages today.
Optimising web pages is still an important process for
getting the most out of your site, but equally it should be kept
in context. The best results will tend to come from optimising good
quality text rich relevant content that lots of people would find
useful. So getting great rankings for a website is often going to
be tied in with off sites factors such as who and how sites links
to you.
More often than not clients come to us with fairly large websites
so in these circumstances we aim to train our clients in on page
optimisation so that their sites can be continually optimised [in-house]
in an ethical and effective manner.
