A True Entrepreneur, Right From the Beginning
Aaron Wall
was always smarter than average. In grade school, when he played
math games with his class, he won so often that his classmates started
to boo him when he won and cheer when he lost. He took college entry
exams in the 5th grade, and outscored the average high-school senior.
But he'd be the first to tell you his spelling was lousy.
During his childhood, Aaron raked yards and shoveled snow to make
pocket money. While most kids would simply do the chore and pocket
the change, however, Aaron was thinking about how to maximize his
profit-even at an early age. He quickly learned the most efficient
way to run his route, whether on bike or on foot; the optimum times
to collect payment; and the best order in which to deliver newspapers.
Baseball cards, Aaron's childhood passion, became his business
as a teenager. By the age of sixteen, he sold cards at baseball
card shows-and picked up a lot about marketing. He learned about
market demand, pricing, premium pricing, trend prediction, and much
more. He found he had a natural talent for business.
Aaron joined the military right after graduating from high school.
He found himself assigned to a special-ops, fast-attack nuclear
submarine, operating the core reactor. Military life didn't agree
with him, however-and in 2002, after being discharged from the Navy,
he started an online blog to publish rants against the military.
However, that blog was hardly a fast track to success. Aaron was
depressed, broke, and unemployed. He got a job as a middle manager
at a corporation, but his money troubles weren't over. He continued
to have bad luck with finances, and he got in a car accident, his
company made a mistake in his paycheck, and he got a bill for overpayment
with his military pay in the space of three days. Despite this,
however, he refused help from friends and family, and never filed
for unemployment.
While he was working as a middle manager, Aaron continued to learn
about the web-an interest sparked by his military-rant website.
After eight months, he quit his job. He was a career counselor's
nightmare-no savings, thousands of dollars in debt, and an income
of about $100 a month from his website. However, within a short
amount of time he tripled that income-and within a year after quitting
his job, he was making over $10,000 a month.
Aaron is now one of the web's top search-engine optimizers. He
has helped hundreds of companies get top rankings with search engines,
and his updated
SEO Book is a treasure-trove of great information about the
web. Despite-or perhaps because of-his success, Aaron concentrates
more on helping others than on making sales. His clients find him
witty and down-to-earth, and they love that he doesn't make sales
pitches.
Aaron believes that to get what you really want, you first have
to experience what you don't want. Despite his natural intelligence
and instinctual understanding of business, life has hardly been
a walk in the park for Aaron-but he'd probably say that's one of
his strengths.
