Fredrick Marckini: World’s First SEO?

When Fredrick Marckini founded iProspect, his search marketing consultancy, in 1996, there wasn’t really any such thing as a search marketer. His company was the first to concentrate only on search engine marketing, working to maximize client sites’ profitability through high rankings. Today, the company also manages pay-per-click ad campaigns, paid inclusion services, and web analytics.
Fredrick went on to establish himself as an expert in the search marketing industry. He’s written several books on the subject. The first, Secrets to Achieving Top-10 Positions, was considered the definitive groundbreaking book on the topic in 1997. He went on to write Achieving Top 10 Rankings in Internet Search Engines in 1998 and Search Engine Positioning in 2001—which many industry experts consider the “bible” of SEO. He also writes an ongoing column, “Change Agent,” for CMO Magazine.
Today, Fredrick is considered a search marketing pioneer—one of the original experts who helped define the profession. He keeps a high profile in the industry, writing articles for ClickZ and Search Engine Watch, among others. He’s been featured in The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Financial Times of London, National Public Radio, the Washington Post, Investors and Business Daily, BusinessWeek, and many other mainstream media and publications as an industry expert. He made BtoB Magazine’s Top 100 Marketers list for 2005 and 2006.
Fredrick and iProspect are based out of Watertown, Massachusetts.
The firm is committed to working with clients on an ongoing basis
to manage their rankings and stay on top of the competition. The
firm has worked with Delta, Cingular Wireless, DeVry University,
Circuit City, Xerox, and other well-known brands to optimize traffic
and search engine rankings. Lately Fredrick moved over and became
Chief Global Search Officer for parent company Isobar.
Fredrick and representatives from iProspect stay visible in the search marketing community by attending Search Engine Strategies, ad:Tech, and other conferences around the world as featured panelists and industry experts.
In his spare time, Fredrick is a leader in his field and in his local business community. He is a member of the Ad Club of Boston’s board. He’s also a founding member of SEMPO—the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization. He can be credited with helping to make the field of search marketing what it is today, and with pioneering search marketing strategies in the founding years of search engines. He has been in SEO since its beginning, and continues to find success and recognition in the field today.
