Jeremy Schoemaker—Going His Own Way

Jeremy Schoemaker’s first exposure to computers came as a kid in the 1980’s. His mother bought an Apple LLC, and Jeremy learned to write simple programs on it—mostly repeating text messages that said “my mom is cool.”

In 1995, Jeremy was working as an appliance salesman when one of his customers offered him a job with her Internet business, Net Express. Jeremy quit his job at Sears that day and started work at Net Express the next. There, he learned Linux programming and Internet basics. After about two years—and about a month away from getting fired, as he describes it—Jeremy decided to go back to college. He spent more time partying with friends than studying, and in the meantime he started Macquake.com and Macgamer.com, two Macintosh gaming sites that were soon earning him about $1200 a month in advertising revenue.

Then came the dot-com crash. Jeremy’s advertising revenue evaporated, and he left college and went to work for a locally-owned Internet provider called Reveal.net. Jeremy worked in tech support, but spent a lot of time gaming—and after two and a half years, he was offered the option of quitting or being fired. He quit.

Jeremy is the first to admit he became bored quickly at most of his subsequent jobs. He worked in IT at several banks, including Wells Fargo, First National Bank, and Commercial Federal. But he was always very independent—which didn’t serve him well in a corporate environment. He would finish his job duties well before the day ended—and spend the rest of his time working on his own websites. Eventually, his employers would catch on. He stayed about two years with most of his corporate jobs before quitting or being fired.

Finally—after leaving several jobs for working on his own websites during company time—he started his own business, ShoeMoney Media Group. Success didn’t hit right away; it took him about a year to start generating enough income to survive. To finance his business, he sold recycled computer parts on Ebay. Once the business took off, he was making eight figures.

Today, Jeremy Schoemaker is one of the most successful affiliate marketing gurus online. He earns a great deal through his most profitable niche market, ringtones—but he also owns several companies, including ShoeMoney Media Group, which offers a set of IT services including design, hosting, consulting, and online security. He has seen unrivaled success with Google Adsense and is a guest speaker at many elite SEO conventions. He also reaches thousands of listeners with his WebMasterRadio program, Net Income.
